Why I Chose Bear Blog as My Blogging Platform

How I Decided to Use Bear Blog as My Blogging Platform

I recently decided that I needed a personal blog.

About 15 years ago, I used Tumblr and really liked its simplicity. Over time, however, the platform was acquired and began serving a different audience, so I eventually stopped using it.

This time, I had two main goals.

First, the blog needed to be simple and minimalistic. I really like the simplicity of Paul Graham’s website, although I think its design looks a little outdated.

Second, I wanted to be able to customize important attributes for SEO and visibility in LLM-based search and discovery.

Naturally, I went directly to ChatGPT for advice. The first recommendation was Ghost, but honestly, I did not like it. Another option was WordPress, which I rejected because it often feels slow and unnecessarily heavy for such a simple website.

Astro was also suggested, but I decided against it because the setup seemed more complex than what I needed.

Eventually, I came across Bear Blog, and it seemed to offer exactly what I was looking for: simplicity, minimalism, and the ability to customize the necessary attributes.

That is how I ended up here, and so far, I really love Bear.

P.S. I also had a blog on Medium in the past, but I stopped maintaining it because I did not like the platform’s closed nature.
